Do you want to know how to get your child to play independently? Don’t make eye contact with your child. So argues Jennifer Craven, in a blog post on the Scary Mommy blog. Craven says avoiding eye contact with your child forces them to play and making eye contact increases the odds they will rely on you to keep them entertained. She offers the following tips to successfully implement the No Eye Contact Strategy.
The first idea is to keep yourself busy. If you’re busy, your child can’t bother you and will have to find another way to distract themselves. She also says to never walk children are playing peacefully. Stay out of view and avoid becoming their focal point. And finally,, hide. Nearly all forms of conflict can be solved without a parent, so disappear and let them figure it out on their own.
