A 5th grade class in Illinois is surprising everyone around them with their desire to skip recess time in order to learn American Sign Language. This began when a new student entered the class, almost completely deaf since birth. Instead of isolating and ignoring the other student, which often happens, his fellow classmates approached their teacher about beginning an American Sign Language club.
Of course the teacher agreed enthusiastically and the club began to take over the provided recess time. The students aid, that goes with him from class to class, has begun teaching the club and mentioned being very excited and happy the students are so eager to learn a new language and open their minds to a new culture.
